MOVING OVER TIME: Land Note Festival Event

Friday 21 August 2026
7:30pm

Peatlands are difficult terrain to navigate. Walking conditions are tricky. You can find yourself lifting your legs in an exaggerated fashion and with the next step, slipping into squelching earth. Feet easily sink into the soft, wet ground. The initiated, those who restore and work on peatlands, seem to stride across peatlands at a pace, barely looking at the uneven and unpredictable ground. But for the less practiced, arms stretch outward to balance, falling is frequent, and getting back up is ungainly. These observations and lived experience of working on peatlands inspired a co-created dance piece which will take you into the world of peat – its deep time and breathing - and peatland restoration – in all weather conditions.

The performance will conclude with an open Q&A about peatlands and peatland restoration with experts from the Crichton Carbon Centre (CCC) and the Tweed Forum.

Choreographed and performed by Kerry Morrison (CCC Artist) and Rachel Coyle (Tweed Forum Peatland Project Officer), with original score by Lucy Blane, text by Carys Mainprize (CCC), sound and words by Helmut Lemke (Environmental and Sound Artist), and film by Josephine Daube, and set and costume design by Emma Defty in collaboration with Carys and Kerry
