Growing Community Tourism in the Machars

Friday 26 June 2026
11:00am – 3:00pm
Free event

Join the GSA Biosphere Partnership and local organisations for a workshop exploring new opportunities for community-led tourism development.

This interactive workshop will bring communities together to explore new opportunities for community tourism and strengthening connections across the Machars. The day will focus on sharing ideas, identifying priorities and developing practical actions that support local tourism and community development.

Participants will take part in a series of engaging activities, including:

● A Vision Board Workshop — capturing ideas visually about the future of community tourism

● A Pitch Session — small groups presenting one key idea from their community

● A Video Capture Session — recording key messages, stories and insights

● A Written Workshop — gathering structured feedback and agreed next steps

All are welcome, whether you're a local resident, business owner, visitor attraction, activity provider, or anyone interested in sustainable, locally-led tourism on our beautiful coast.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Booking is essential so that we have accurate numbers.

Tickets are free but we have a Donation Ticket option on the booking page, and we are grateful for any and all contributions. These help our charity sustain its work across SW Scotland's UNESCO Biosphere.

Our venue is the New Town Hall in Whithorn. For accessibility information, please refer to venue's own website: All Roads Lead to Whithorn – A community hub & hostel in Whithorn, Dumfries and Galloway

This event is part of the Solway Coast & Marine Project (SCAMP Landscape Connections), a multi-year partnership between local organisations which will deliver nature restoration and rural regeneration projects for the coastal communities of Dumfries & Galloway. SCAMP is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund with thanks to National Lottery players.
