Create a Wildlife-Friendly Garden

Thursday 9 July 2026
7:00pm
Free event

Join us for an inspiring talk on how to transform your garden into a thriving haven for wildlife. Gardens are increasingly recognised as vital refuges for nature, supporting everything from colourful garden birds and busy pollinators to hedgehogs and other fascinating creatures.

Discover simple, practical ways to make your outdoor space more welcoming to wildlife. We'll explore what every wildlife-friendly garden needs: food, water, shelter, access, and safety. Through real examples and easy-to-implement ideas, you'll learn how to boost your garden’s potential and help nature flourish right on your doorstep.

Whether you have a large garden, a small backyard, or even just a window ledge, this talk will provide plenty of inspiration to help you create a richer, more wildlife-friendly space for all the wildlife found at home.

Our speaker, Malcolm Haddow, will probably be a familiar face to everyone who is interested in nature and wildlife in the Glenkens. He spent a year as a Project Support Officer with the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere, delivering wildlife recording workshops and learning for sustainability in schools, before joining South West Scotland Environmental Information Centre in 2023. He achieved a first class honours in BSc Wildlife and Conservation Management from SRUC and is a keen wildlife enthusiast and recorder with particular interest in insects and vascular plants.

With thanks to the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership Legacy Fund for funding this event.
