HAMNET is a Shakespeare inspired story, based on the 2020 novel by Maggie O'Farrell. It dramatizes the life of a young William Shakespeare and his wife , Agnes, as they mourn the loss of their young son Hamnet. The movie is a raw exploration of the grief of both parents, who deal with their loss in different ways. It speculates on the idea that Hamnet's death was the inspiration for Hamlet.
Jessie Buckley was the recipient of many awards, including an Oscar, for her portrayal of Agnes. Paul Mescal plays Shakespeare.
