Join us for this weaving workshop with Thornhill-based tapestry artist Gyllian Thomson.
This summer Gyllian will lead two workshops at Cample that will take inspiration from Katie Schwab’s artwork small wares & hard wares, which comprises three narrow ribbons that were woven on a 19th century band loom at the Textiel Lab in the Netherlands. The ribbons are each 15-20 metres long and are rich in detail – showing all the faults, breaks and areas of exposed warp alongside delicate areas of pattern.
In this session, we will each make our own narrow weave using yarns on a small wooden frame. Gyllian will talk us through the key basic skills and then you will have the chance to work on your own woven ribbon.
All frames will be warped up ready to weave and all materials will be provided. There will also be a chance to have a close look at small wares & hard wares with Gyllian.
